Moonstone or "Adularia", belongs to a group of feldspar and is one of the most available minerals in lapidary practice. It was first named for an early mining site at Mt. Adular in Switzerland. Moonstone has a unique attribute of colour known as adularescence. Adularescence is due to a diffusion of light and varying layers of orthoclase and albite within. This effect has a form of a floating light or sheen. Although his colours are those of moonlight, it can show multiple hues of colours like colourless, brown, purple, green, yellow, orange, pink, white, blue or gray.
